California high-speed rail business plan expects costs to rise to $77.3 billion

A draft of the newest revision of the California high-speed rail project’s business plan says costs will increase $13 billion to $77.3 billion, a leap of as much as 35 percent from estimates given just two years ago.

It also says the soonest date local Bay Area trains will roll out is 2027, two years later than earlier estimates. The revision looks at cost increases on each segment of the San Francisco to Los Angeles project’s first phase.
