MarketWatch – Stock market live blog: Wall Street flips between gains and losses

Stocks shook off an early decline to trade higher early Tuesday but then turned mixed as the stock market attempted to recover from the previous day’s rout.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -0.48%  and the S&P 500 SPX, -0.36%  each dropped more than 4% Monday for their biggest one-day percentage declines since August 2011.
