Waymo is buying thousands of new Chrysler vans as it races toward commercializing its robotaxis

Alphabet-owned self-driving car company Waymo is buying thousands of Chrysler Pacifica vans to build out a commercial fleet of cars for its forthcoming autonomous taxi service, the company said Tuesday.

Waymo has about 600 self-driving Chrysler Pacifica vans on the road today in limited tests of its taxi service, notably in Phoenix and Atlanta. This latest deal, which is likely worth tens of millions of dollars, would give Waymo the fleet of cars necessary to launch the service more widely.
